As of March 2023, due to increased difficulty in securing sufficient hotel room blocks for our participants, Lake Effect has made the difficult decision to move to a stay-to-play model. For the past 4 years we have tried to keep tournament costs down by not requiring stay to play. In the beginning we felt this was a model that worked well, however as our tournaments have become more and more popular, the hotel properties have been less inclined to work with us and more inclined to raise their rates on tournament weekends. By switching to a stay-to-play model we can keep hotel costs at a reasonable rate that we can lock in and prevent hotel properties from gouging our participant families. We appreciate everyone’s understanding of the necessity of this move and we appreciate your patience as we navigate the housing agency process.

DAWG Nation Winter Classic
Type: Adult
Divisions: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper, and Women'
Levels: Various
Arena: Steinberg Skating Rink
We welcome you to our first outdoor Pond Hockey Tournament in the St. Louis Chapter of DAWG Nation. The Steinberg Skating Rink is located in Forest Park right in the shadow of Barnes-Jewish Washington University Medical campus on Kingshighway. The skating rink is the largest outdoor rink in the Midwest at 27,600 square feet of ice. Hockey is not usually played at Steinberg as this rink was designed for ice skating. So this will be a unique opportunity to play a tournament there under the open sky!
This tournament will have 3 games going on at once. There will be no goalies as the goals will be traditional Pond Hockey Puck Boxes. A round-robin style bracket with a 4-game guarantee. All teams will play one game on Friday and the remaining 3 round-robin games will be played on Saturday. Playoffs/ championship games will be played on Sunday. This is a 4vs4 team play with a maximum of 8 players per team.
Full team registration is available and you can put in a deposit to hold your team spot. So act fast because this will sell out and we'd hate to see you miss out! No team, not a problem as you'll be able to sign up as an individual as well. Individual spots will be limited.
Off of the ice will feature fun winter-themed entertainment. Some NHL Alumni will be present making player appearances and even participating in the tournament. Since our mission at DAWG Nation is to give back we will have a silent auction, raffles, and much more to be announced as we get closer to the event!
